pickled green chilies. taken while waiting for my lunch at a hawker centre. this goes really well with "sar hor fun". sourish and spicy (just a little) at the same time. btw, i've been telling that i've got some personal projects going on. i've got one down and two more to go. but anyways, what i also want to tell is that i made a new blog. i'm going to have two separate blogs. if you're interested, take a look here. :D would appreciate it! thanks!

i was supposed to post this last night but i was experiencing technical glitches. i didn't celebrate valentines instead we celebrated the lunar new year. but then i've thought of posting this lemon muffin baked by my colleague last Friday. i was "forced" to take a photo of it instead of eating it because she wanted people to see her creation. but then, worth the hard work as i ate this muffin, and she promised to bake some more! :D Xin Nian Kuai Le too!

i'll be rounding up my Penang series with my last food photos. i've actually saved the best for last! :D food above is Assam Laksa. now, this is different from the traditional laksa that i've known here in Singapore. the laksa here has coconut milk, but this one has sour fish soup (reminds me of the taste of sinigang, :D). i really wouldn't mind eating this laksa everyday but sadly we're still searching for a good assam laksa here.
that is char kway teow. still different from the usual ones served here. it's much tastier and white! :D both are actually really yummy worth the hassle we went through to buy them (we had to brave the heavy downpour to buy them). i will really miss these foods! (sorry, i couldn't make proper explanations about the ingredients of the food that's why i had to search for a good link about them).
hope everyone became hungry with this last food post! hahaha!

i know...i've been posting a couple of food entries since my visit to Penang. but i can't help myself as i've got a couple of food photos that i managed to shoot before my other hand is desperately trying to attack them. haha! the food above is kueh pie tee also called as Top Hats as the pie tees look like them. i've never tried them before and was happy to have had. too bad i can't find a hawker centre here that serves them. the filling for this are jicama, carrots, shallots and prawns. yumyum! don't ask me how fast i managed to polish them off. let's just say waiting for it to be prepared took a longer time rather than eating them :D.
the last piece topped with chili sauce.

vacation in Penang wouldn't be complete without trying their street food. i was never that of a picky eater and i do miss the street food in Manila so why not try the Malaysian ones? picture above is cucur udang or prawn fritters. similar to "okoy" though. tough/crunchy on the outside but soft inside. it's deliciously dipped in chili sauce though. here are the other street foods that i have enjoyed;
pisang champada (fried chempedak). the fruit is like something in between jackfruit and durian. nope, i don't eat durian...yet. i still have to convince myself to eat durian in the near future as i am foreseeing that i will be 'forced' to eat it since i was able to try champada. the smell is like jackfruit but the texture is like durian. i didn't mind trying the fried one as it is covered in batter and was deep fried. wish me luck if i'll try durian. :D malaysian burger. i can't point out what is special about their street burger though i have to admit it was yummy! haha! my burger was of beef patty wrapped in scrambled egg. and they added coleslaw on the bun. sorry, i didn't take a picture of the burger itself as i immediately ate it. i became really hungry while watching them cook and prepare the food. haha!
pisang goreng (fried banana) somewhat similar to bananacue except that this one is just covered in batter and they used a different variety of banana. you will just really rely on the sweetness of the banana as the batter was bland. but nevertheless good as well. probably i was just used to eating bananacue which was really sweet since its sugar coated. it was a good experience to try these street foods. i most especially love the cucur udang! but honestly, i must say i do really love food that's why!

we had a little "formal" dinner on our second night in Penang. we decided to have a good pizza after our well deserved massage. unfortunately i forgot to take a picture of the name of the restaurant and how it looks because i was definitely hungry. the restaurant is located at Batu Ferringhi, if it helps, haha! this is one of the best pizza i have ever tasted because it was cooked in a wood fire oven and definitely thin crust. it has pepperoni, olives, mushrooms and garlic. me and my girlfriend managed to eat the whole pizza (she had three slices, and i, err, five :D)
we had bruschetta for our appetizer. topped with tomatoes, olives, white onions and probably bell pepper. we polished this one off quickly too :D

as promised, i am going to post pictures from my recent holiday. well, i have to be really honest. most of the pictures that i have taken are food. hahaha! well, it's been quite obvious that i love food and i can be quite adventurous too. but i am having a difficult time posting food photos as my mouth is faster than my camera. but for this trip, i tried my very best to capture the food first before eating them. heaven knows how difficult it is for me to restrain myself. hahaha!
the food above was my dinner during the first night. its hokkien hae mee (hokkien prawn noodles). vermicelli noodles, prawn, slices of pork, and boiled egg. the taste lies in the spicy yet prawny essence of the sauce. i had to specifically tell them to make it mild spicy. but this tastes really really good.
this one is the sar hor fan. flat noodles in thick seafood gravy sauce. i've actually had this before leaving although this one has the yummy smoky taste. probably because it is really slightly burnt. these food are from the hawker centre around Batu Ferringhi. we managed to polish these in a matter of ten minutes. talk about being hungry!

my current comfort food! newly discovered from cold storage! :D these choco babies are so addicting. i am not a chocolate lover but i do indulge in chocolates once in a while. i also happened to discover another chocolate by meiji (i will save another entry for that in the future :D). so they became my models :D enjoy!

have you seen the star? :P

choco babies :D

we've been eyeing to try and eat the mille crepe cakes from the cake shop next to our school but haven't gotten the chance since it's a little expensive compared to our heavenly indulgence of ice cream. and just today, me and my food buddies, decided to just sit down and try the cakes. oh! so heavenly! i can't do justice with the photos but it is definitely heaven when we tried the cakes. i had the chocolate mille crepe and my buddies had the plain mille crepe. i finished off the whole slice and about a quarter of the slice of my food buddy (hahaha! super takaw!).
one bad side effect though, after eating the cake, i guess we had a little too much of it that we had headaches. so i had to check what are the basic ingredients for this heavenly cake. probably it's a little too much of eggs, butter and sugar. here's the article that i found in the internet.
original mille crepe and chocolate mille crepe.
i have realised i can't be a food blogger...a food blogger needs to be patient and be prepared to have the food eaten a little later than the usual. it took an incredible amount of effort for me to take pictures of the cakes before actually attacking them! hahaha!

it's a full moon tonight! or so i thought :D can't help but be engrossed with it again. i've been eyeing the moon since Monday although i haven't got the chance to take a picture of it. i've been keeping a mental note to myself that i need another full moon shot :D i'm quite happy that the sky is clear, almost spotless except for the moon.
since it's end of term party in school, parents brought in a lot of food (some savoury and most are sweets). today, one parent brought in yam cake. i am actually not familiar with this food, that i had to google it. although it was actually yam and pumpkin cake according to the mum. it's my first time to eat this cake and since we had a lot of sweets this week, it was nice to feel a different flavour in the mouth. i've actually never seen a cake topped with chilis, spring onions and dried prawns. and the cake was bought in Classic Cakes. :)
enjoy the moon and the cake :D have a lovely weekend everyone. Sky watch entries are found here.

i ended my busy week last week by chilling out with pasta, pizza, buffalo wings and beers. i went with a friend to chill out at Breko's in Holland Village. since we met up after work, we were so hungry for dinner that as soon as the pasta came, it went straight to our plates and had finished it off in a matter of minutes before finally realising that i haven't taken a quick snap of it. so as soon as the pizza arrived, my friend immediately grabbed a slice and i quickly took some snapshots of it.
the pizza in different angles:

angle 2
it was meatball pizza (it was called "pizza no ball") and was very nice. it's just simply topped with two meatballs per slice and some olives but we were both satisfied. it was good with the heavy cheese toppings too, and the meatball was delicious! :D
after pizza, we ordered buffalo wings. in their menu, they had the spicy wings and buffalo wings. we were contemplating about ordering the spicy wings but the server said buffalo wings were even spicier so that's what we had while chilling out. i didn't realise if it's really spicy because it tastes good too and probably i was already immune with spicy dishes (just a little bit).

all in all i had a very good evening with a happy tummy! :D

Christmas season is here! yeah, i know, i realise it way too late :D well, since the month has started, i've been very busy putting things in order before i leave work for my most awaited vacation. yey! i can't wait to eat and shop for the holiday season! :D
it's the last week in school today, so we're having end of term party for the children. one mum brought the chocolate chip cookies that she had baked at home. i'm not really a cookie fanatic but her cookies are really good! almost sinful! i know i didn't do justice for taking pictures of these yummy cookies but it was hard trying to control the urge to gobble them. it was moist, chocolatey yet sweet enough to keep you craving for a second serving.

these are the ones i saved to bring home (all in all i had five :D) for a little photoshoot :D hope you enjoy them too! :D

the other day i received an email from a friend about apples. yeah, it was just a mass email. well, the content of the mail says that beware in eating the skin of the apple because it is covered in wax. to quote, "wax is used for preservation purposes and cold storage". it even has pictures of the apple being scraped by a cutter. i didn't believe it, i love eating apples with it's skin and i am washing it before eating. though yesterday at work, we gave it a try. we scraped the skin gently to prove that there isn't wax on the apple. 'lo and behold, the apple is really covered with a thin layer of wax! we were quite paranoid about it. but a colleague asked, "how long have you been eating apples with it's skin?! if it's really dangerous, you should be dead by now!" makes sense right?! we ended up laughing and eating the apple by the way! hehehe! that wax will be digested anyways!
so when i went home today and found apples on the table, i washed them and tried posing them in front of the camera. does it look delicious to eat?! i just had to make little adjustments to make them more appealing, hehe! and it is quite effective because i am eating my second apple right now! :D

i'm a very big fan of Japanese food. i just can't enough of them most especially the sushi and sashimi. i love the salmon and tuna sashimi. a good sashimi like this will melt into your mouth. yumyum. most people are not fond of eating raw meat, but with this one, i can probably eat this everyday (as long as the meat is class A). i used flash here to have the colour come out then did some adjustments. don't you just love the colour of the salmon? me, i like! :D

this was months old photo. we had our coffee at a cafe in Jakarta. if i remember it right, this is a frap topped with different kinds of nuts. the area was quite dark and if i am not using the flash, the picture is too yellowish and noisy too. so what i did was to cover the flash with the folded napkin (i've read about that kind of technique from flickr). i have forgotten about the picture until i opened the folder again. i did some playing again, i tried the 'orton' effect but i don't think it was a succesful attempt. nevertheless, i'm still satisfied with the result! :D this frap is really a yummy one!

it was the Mooncake Festival over this weekend here in Singapore. my first time to actually celebrate the festival. unfortunately i wasn't able to attend the celebration at Chinatown. but still uncle has received a couple of mooncakes from his friends. just some info, mooncake is a traditional chinese pastry made from lotus seed paste with a thin crust and usually contains egg yolk from salty duck egg. it is rich, heavy and dense. though most mooncakes these days have different variations.
the photos above are the nut mooncake and pig-shaped mooncake. the nut mooncake tastes good as i love nuts. but i didn't eat the pig-shaped as i know it is too filling. probably if i can find chocolate mooncake that a friend is raving about, i'd try that one as well.
